8 principles to keep a brain in perfect condition

The human being is different from other living beings by the use he makes of his brain, but if we also consider the relationship with other people and with ourselves, a well used brain is the basis of a more satisfying and meaningful life. The mind is the set of abilities of a person and the part of the human being where cognitive processes develop. The brain is our most precious tool to solve problems, face complex situations and enjoy life. There can be no mind without a brain and mental processes are altered in a brain that deteriorates.

According to the World Health Organization, one in almost every four people is currently affected by brain problems, being the leading cause of disability. If we also take into account the influence of the mind on the organism, we will agree that “a healthy mind is the foundation of a healthy body.” Our cognitive reserve is cultivated during life by maintaining an active brain, free of substances that affect it and properly nourished. What are the basic principles that enable a brain in the best possible conditions?

  • Maintain a healthy organism. Value your health and avoid deterioration by keeping in mind an attitude of general care of your body. Perform physical activity appropriate for your age daily. Also do sports at least 3 times a week.
  • Eat in a balanced way, reducing artificial addictive foods or eliminating them completely. Increase the consumption of healthy and nutritious food.
  • Get enough sleep. No more no less. Between 7 and 8 hours on average in adults. Do not take problems to bed. Sleep is essential to maintain a good brain and mood.
  • Train and empower your brain. Many people pay excessive attention to their physique by neglecting their brain development. Stimulation of your brain does not end with your studies. You must continue throughout your life. Neural connections need to be used so that they do not deteriorate. Read more, think more, play more and learn new things throughout your life.
  • Get out of your comfort zone more frequently. Analyze new ideas in an unbiased manner. Open your mind to new trends if they are positive. Dare to question what until now you have considered as absolute truths. Talk to people who think differently from you constructively. Face your fears and allow yourself to enjoy activities that you thought were not made for you.
  • Maintain good friendships and interact frequently. The human being is social. Our brain needs contact with other individuals. Look for activities that make it easier for you to interact with others. Do things selflessly for other people.
  • Set vital objectives in the short, medium and long term. Without goals the brain shuts down and the person goes into decline. Adapt your goals to your age and circumstances, but don’t be afraid to dream of important challenges, breaking them down into stages that allow you to enjoy the road.
